Gamers Update: End of January

2010 started off with 3 big exclusive titles (1 for each console), and all of them came out the same day.

Mass Effect 2, the Xbox 360 exclusive, is better than its predecessor in every way. With better graphics and more action, you shouldn't miss out on this one if you own a 360.

The long anticipated 256-player shooter MAG, Massive Action Game, came out for the Ps3.

Last, Tatsunoko vs. Capcom: Ultimate All-Stars came out for the Wii.

– There were also good multi-plat games like Bayonetta, Darksiders, and No More Heroes 2: Desperate Struggle.

– Xbox Live exclusive DLCs Ballad of Gay Tony and The Lost and Damned for GTA IV: Episodes from Liberty City will come to the PS3 and Wii on March 30th. It seems Microsoft payed Rockstar $50 million to only keep those expansions exclusive for a limited time.

PSN gets MAG Beta

Users can now download the MAG beta client from the PS store now. Unfortunately, you won’t be able to play it until January 4th. The beta ends on January 9th and the game releases on January 26th. We will finally see if 256 players is reality.

Previews and Reviews

First on the list of our previews, and reviews, is the world exclusive DJ Hero trailer.

The game features over 80 new mixes never before heard, and is also said to release with a Jay-Z and Eminem (rappers) version. This special edition will come with both artists works, an exclusive controller, DJ stand, and a metal carrying case.

Along with that, Guitar Hero 5 has been slated for a September 1st release, one week before Rock Band: Beatles.

A MAG Preview, which was a multiplayer war game for PS3 on steroids has been posted by G4, along with their Bionic Commando and Punch-Out Wii reviews. MAG has been described as massively amazing, because while featuring a command system similar to “commander controls battalions who control soldiers” and allowing each player to gain the experience to play every command position, the game also boasts a 256 person multiplayer online mode. PS3 fans, be very excited.

Bionic Commando has become quite a let down among the gaming community. While some kind of combat system exists, and the new bionic arms works well, the game lacks any sense of open world gameplay, often keeping you on a narrow track. When ever you run off of this track, you are greeted by a magical radioactive area while kills you almost instantly. Most people feel that Bionic Commando should be more open, because that is what the equipment in the game applies.

Punch-Out isn’t for the light gamers either. The first Punch-Out for the NES (Nintendo Entertainment System) was extremely hard with each character becoming increasingly stronger, bigger, and more clever with every round. While the visuals have been completely revamped and new characters added, the game remains the same with it’s original characters, ever challenging you until you burst into a frenzy of random punches that eventually lead to a sweaty hand and a broken TV. You may also attach the Wii Balance Board to preform dodges in the game.

HTC’s new TouchPro2 has also been previewed by PocketNow.com with somewhat giddy joy from it’s reviewer.

And lastly, the new Zune HD has been handled and seems like it’s got its touch screen correct.

PS3 Exclusives Hands-on: MAG, inFamous, Uncharted 2, White Knight Chronicles

This April, Gamespot and Joystiq have had an opportunity to have a look at some of the upcoming PS3 exclusives over at Sony Computer Entertainment for Sony Gamers Day 2009.

Massive Action Game (MAG) is a 256 player online FPS shooter game in which, you have squads of 8 fighting the other 31 squads. Previewed at E3 2008, MAG has a concept that is perhaps impossible to achieve. Many doubt this game can actually have 256 players play in one single match, but the same people will praise it if it comes out to be successful. The game is coming this fall.

inFamous is a game similar to Prototype, which basically follows a similar concept of GTA.  There is a video showing parts of Empire City and a little bit of what you can do in it. The video was originally presented by Joystiq. You can get your hands on this game on May 26th.

Uncharted 2: Among Thieves

Unlike its predecessor, Uncharted 2 will contain Multiplayer, and we found out that it wil lalso contain Co-op Mode. The game is coming this fall. Take a look at the 2 videos below for more on the Multiplayer and Co-op.

White Knight Chronicles

White Knight Chronicles came out in Japan December 2008. In this typical RPG game, you are on your way to rescue a princess, and along the way you acquire a mysterious power of the White Knight. While the gameplay system is very unique from other RPG’s, the online takes you in with a 4-player Co-op, in which you have 1 hour to finish a particular quest. The release date will be announced at E3.

Last but not least, we have our first E3 rumor. PS3 might have a motion sensor controller “Sony Remote” similar to the Wii’s. Even though the Sixaxis controller can do it, they might want to take it to the next level.
